A new macOS backdoor called CloudSyncD is being distributed through fake Zoom installers, with attackers even prompting users to bypass macOS security protections and provide their password. Researchers say recent samples are connecting to live infrastructure, indicating an active campaign.

☕ Friday Fun Fact: The first we**am was created to check on a coffee pot.

In 1991, researchers at the University of Cambridge were tired of walking across their large computer lab only to discover the Trojan Room coffee pot was empty.

So, they pointed a small grayscale camera at it and connected the camera to their network.

The system captured about three images per minute, letting researchers check the coffee pot from their computers. In 1993, the feed went online and became one of the early landmarks of the World Wide Web.

It stayed online until 2001.

All that technology… just to answer one very important question: “Is there coffee?” ☕

Sometimes, the simplest problems lead to the most interesting innovations.
