At first glance, it feels almost architectural-as though an entire garden had been arranged into columns and woven in wool.

Created in Persia around 1880, this oversized antique Kerman rug replaces the expected central medallion with an extraordinary rhythm of repeating vertical bands. Monumental palmettes, curling vines and richly layered blossoms rise across its warm ivory field, while a striking row of rosettes draws the eye through the center.

From a distance, the composition feels balanced, ordered and commanding. Step closer, and that structure dissolves into a remarkably intricate world of coral, burgundy, soft green and muted red.
