Babylonstoren lies at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain, between Paarl and Franschhoek in the Western Cape region of South Africa. Today it is a farm, a farm hotel, a restaurant, greenhouse, bakery, larder, spa, cellar and a learning centre for our people. Babylonstoren is also home to an organic food garden of great diversity: eight acres of vegetables and aromatic herbs. Open daily (including public holidays, except 25 December) from 9h00 -18h00. Entrance fees are payable at the ticket office. Register for Babylonstoren Membership. R100 per adult | Children under 18 enter FREE

In an interview with BBC Gardeners' World Magazine, Britain’s much-loved gardener and broadcaster, Monty Don, was asked which garden in the world he would most like to spend winter in.

His answer? “Babylonstoren in South Africa. It is an extraordinary garden that has a wonderful hotel and restaurant, so it would make a very appealing place to spend Christmas. It is near Cape Town and Stellenbosch, in the Southern Hemisphere, where Christmas falls in summer.”

We thought it the perfect time to look back on his visit to the farm in 2018 and celebrate our garden through his eyes. Perhaps Monty Don summed it up best: “I wouldn’t need to travel any further. A beautiful garden, good food and sunshine would be quite enough.”

What’s on in November

Tick everyone off your festive gift list in one go! Visit our Garden of Gifts pop-up at the Mall of Africa until 24 December, or shop the collection online.

Gather round the table on 5 December for our final Harvest Table of the year and celebrate the very best the farm has to offer.

Join Federico Lucii from our sister estate, Vignamaggio, in Tuscany, on 17 or 20 November for an Italian-inspired evening of festive food and w**e at the Old Bakery.

Visit the farm as we welcome the first flush of summer, with early peaches and plums ripe for the picking.

Make time for a farm escape before the year ends. Book a two-night stay before 30 November and enjoy a complimentary drive to our secluded mountain pool.
