Happy Friday from Rondekop!

These curious characters are more than just friendly faces - they’re part of our regenerative farming philosophy, helping us care for the vineyard from the ground up.

From a round hill in the Banghoek Valley to the global stage.

Our Rondekop Una V Chardonnay 2024 has been awarded Second Equal Place at the Judgment of Davis 2026 - the landmark blind tasting held by the University of California, Davis to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original 1976 Judgment of Paris.

This recognition belongs first to the land itself - to Rondekop, the vineyards, and a philosophy of farming regeneratively and sustainably, with patience and respect for nature.

In this episode, Winemaker Nic van Aarde takes us into the cellar to explore one of the most defining choices in our winemaking: wild fermentation.

At Oldenburg Vineyards, we’ve never inoculated with cultured yeasts. Instead, we rely entirely on the native yeasts present on the grapes and in the cellar - allowing each fermentation to unfold naturally, guided by place rather than prescription.

The result is wines that are more textured, more expressive, and deeply connected to Rondekop.

Nothing added. Nothing forced. Just nature at work.
