Annandale Wine Estate Home of Annandale Wines, the oldest winery in the Helderberg valley, Stellenbosch. It was only in 1996 that it once again transformed it back to a wine farm.
(235)

Annandale is the oldest farm in the Helderberg Valley, and proudly upholds a long tradition of wine-making. The cellar built before the 1700s can still be found on the estate as well as the manor house. For a long period in the early 20th century it had 50 000 vines and part of the land became a haven for abandoned horses and a riding school. Today, Willem and Louanne Briedenhann, 6th generation winemarkers continue to grow the legacy of family winemaking. UK buyers can order from:

A little inspiration from the past as we head into the weekend!

We’ve been digging through old Annandale labels and those of neighbouring farms, looking for inspiration for our upcoming Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc releases.

Settling on a final label is no easy task, especially when you have five generations of w**emaking history to honour 😅

Those who came before us laid the foundations, and we’re proud to build on them as we write the next chapter of Annandale’s story!

Here’s to the generations before us, the w**es still to come, and a wonderful weekend ahead! 🍷

The Helderberg is home to some exceptional w**e producers, with its diverse soils, coastal influence and favourable growing conditions contributing to the quality and character of the w**es produced here.

With that said, it was a pleasure being part of the Helderberg New Release W**e Festival at Lourensford W**e Estate this past weekend, celebrating the region alongside fellow producers 🍷

A special thanks to everyone who stopped by to taste our w**es. Our yet-to-be-released Sauvignon Blanc certainly stole the show, and it was encouraging to see such a positive response. We can’t wait to officially release it later this year! 👀

Things are looking promising in our Chardonnay vineyards as we prepare for the 2027 harvest!

With flowering underway, we’re encouraged by what we’re seeing so far. Great Chardonnay starts in the vineyard, where healthy vines, balanced growth and the right growing conditions help develop the fruit concentration and natural acidity that make this variety so special 💫🌱

There’s still a long growing season ahead, but we’re excited about the potential.

And with the weekend just around the corner, what better excuse to enjoy a glass of Annandale Chardonnay? Come visit us for a tasting and enjoy the beautiful views the farm has to offer.

Cheers to the weekend!

A little vineyard update from our Merlot block 🍇

Things are moving quickly this season, with the Merlot currently looking around two weeks ahead of where we’d usually expect it to be. The first little bunches are already well on their way.

We’ve also been busy suckering. This is the process of removing unwanted shoots from the vine, particularly those growing from the trunk or places where we don’t want additional growth. It helps the vine focus its energy where it’s needed and keeps the canopy cleaner and easier to manage 🍃

Swipe to see the difference before and after!

Harvest 2027 is already starting to take shape. Exciting times!

Handcrafted also means hand labelled 🤚

At Annandale, being part of the process means exactly that. From what goes into the bottle to putting the finishing touches on each one, there are still plenty of things we prefer to do by hand. It keeps us close to what we’re making and reminds us that quality is built through the small details.

Our larger format Cabernet Sauvignon bottles are currently being labelled and prepared for sale. A pretty good belated birthday present, we reckon, or something worth putting aside for Christmas 🎁

Available now via the tasting room and online store.
