It’s such a busy time of the year now. We actually employ more people at this stage than during harvest. Timing is everything and we need to shape the vines to get optimal sunlight into the canopy just after flowering. It may not be ripening time but flavours are being formed already and disease pressure is high. Getting the canopy right now is crucial. Getting it right later is mostly aesthetic. Our bush vine Cinsaut coming on nicely Planted in 2016 this block is really coming along nicely and producing some beautiful fruit we usually co ferment with Cabernet Sauvignon. Just cleaned up the weeds around the vines and will give the rest a mow. We have our Big Release coming this week with 8 new w**es.

Wow what a great pleasure to taste through all our Cabernet Sauvignon 2025 barrels before racking to tank, cleaning the barrels and returning the w**e to barrels. Our last racking and unification before we bottle in January. By hand, by gravity and unfiltered as always. Thanks Hendry for your meticulous work in the cellar.
We’ll be releasing our Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 next week amongst six other w**es. Watch your mail boxes!

David Trafford thoroughly enjoyed running the 8km Blouklip Trail Run with yesterday. Much more difficult than it sounds with stunning trails through mountain fynbos and the beautiful vineyards of Keermont Vineyards and Waterford Estate Thanks Alfred and team of Runventures for organising another awesome event and the other w**eries in our beautiful valley. It was great to meet Jason Millar on Saturday and spend some time tasting through a few vintages of our Sijnn W**ery and De Trafford w**es. Jason is a respected w**e writer and judge from the U.K. and it was great to get his feedback on our w**es and an interesting discussion about w**e critics, the general w**e market and quality and style perceptions.
Thanks for your enthusiasm for South African w**e and thanks for taking the long road up to De Trafford and sharing your time and thoughts.
