July has been unusually dry, with the lowest rainfall we've seen in decades. The warmer conditions meant we had to move quickly to finish pruning before the vines began waking up for spring.

Pruning may be one of the quietest jobs on the farm, but every cut helps shape next season's growth and next year's harvest. As the first signs of spring appear in the vineyards, we are looking forward to another growing season and hoping the winter rains are still on their way. 🌱🍇

We are excited to introduce you to Tiaan, an essential part of the Somerbosch W**es family. Raised right here on the farm, Tiaan brings dedication, craft, and heart to our daily operations. 🌾

With 5 years of experience in the w**e industry, Tiaan oversees most of our farming duties. He works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure we have healthy grapes, sweet strawberries, and fresh vegetables growing throughout the year. 🍓

Get to know a bit more about Tiaan in his own words:
🍷 Favourite Somerbosch W**e: Single Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
🌅 Most beautiful spot on the farm? ‘Die Vlei’, a tranquil dam on the property surrounded by vineyards and beautiful mountain views.

When he is not busy keeping the estate in top shape, he likes to take a trip to the Kruger, spending time in the bush and enjoying the South African wilderness. 🦁

The farm is looking beautifully green after the recent winter rains, with the Helderberg Mountain providing a spectacular backdrop ⛰️🌧️

While the vines rest through the colder months, plenty is happening behind the scenes on our working farm:

Flourishing cover crops are taking care of our soil health and biodiversity ahead of the next growing season. 🌱

After years of cultivation, our bush vines gradually become buried beneath accumulated soil. We are now carefully removing the excess soil around each vine by hand to expose the trunks once again.
It's a slow and labour-intensive process, but an important part of maintaining healthy, productive vineyards.

Nature sets the perfect foundation for our next vintage, and we are loving every moment of this quiet season 🍷✨
